KWorld offering Vista-ready satellite TV-tuners

Digital TV For PC: Taiwan-based multimedia PC company KWorld Computer is offering a pair of Windows Vista-ready DVB-S TV-tuner cards, one for desktops and the other for notebooks, according to information on the company website. The Plus TV DVB-S PI210 enables almost any PC with a free PCI slot to receive free-to-air digital satellite broadcasts, as well as analog TV and FM radio.

KWorld bundles the PI210 with its HyperMedia software package which supports functions including picture-in-picture (PIP), time-shifting and access to electronic program guides (EPGs) and allows scheduled recording even when the PC is powered off, according to specification listed on the website.The compact Plus TV DVB-S 300U offers similar capabilities as the PI210 but uses USB connectivity.Both products come packaged with a remote control allowing the PC to be controlled at a distance.

Just how smart are online premieres?

Digital TV For PC: The idea of a premiere week" has long since disappeared, with new shows debuting as early as August and as late as November in recent years. Now premiere week is becoming even more pass with the migration of some premiere episodes online and elsewhere. Fox said last week that it is making a-Ville" available for download before its Sept. 17 premiere, while NBC will put the pilot episodes of new dramas "Chuck," Bionic Woman," "Journeyman" and "Life" on video-on-demand via cable and satellite carriers.

That comes a year after NBC distributed copies of the Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" pilot through Netflix weeks before its debut. Response to early premieres has been mixed. While some media people think it's a smart way to build buzz, others say it could become a buzz killer. If a pilot doesn't live up to expectations, viewers may write off the show entirely before it's even premiered.
