These buttons may vary from remote to remote. Just hold on the setup or the code search key for 5 - 10 seconds or till the light on the remote turns on. Again it depends on the different remotes that the light will blink or be steady.

If you are programming for your TV, press the TV button on the remote or whichever electronic device you are programming your remote for. Now use the numbers on your remote to enter the 3 or 4 digit code for the device. These codes are given in the manual given with the electronic gadget. If you have lost the manual, these codes are easily available on the internet too. Once you have found the code, enter it and you will notice that the light on your remote control has turned off. Now try using it to switch off your electronic device with the remote and if you can do that, your remote has been programmed.

As for the remote controls that come without the codes, the programming is a bit different and a little time consuming. After the light on the remote has turned on, start pressing the Up button for channels on your remote. You may have to do this many times, may be 5 - 10 minutes. As soon as the channel changes, your remote is programmed. Now turn your electronic device on and off from your remote to finish programming.

However, if you are not able to program your remote with the Up channel button, try it with the Power button on the remote. Press the button a few times till the device you are programming gets turned off. When it does get turned off, you have successfully programmed your remote control.
