If you're a reality television fan, the chances are you're already well aware of controversial reality show Jersey Shore. Named after its settings - New Jersey Shore - the programme follows eight housemates as they get to grips with life on the party-driven coast of New Jersey. If you've never heard of this increasingly-popular show, you may find a new favourite to add to your reality TV must-sees: Jersey Shore is known to be highly addictive.

Following eight individuals as they spend a summer on the shore while working shifts at a T-shirt store, Jersey Shore has attracted much criticism due to its controversial use of the terms 'guido' and 'guidette' to characterise its cast members. The show appears to capitalise on the stereotyping of Italian-American culture and has thus gained some negative publicity from viewers who find the adherence to stereotyping offensive. This attention has perhaps only served to make the show even more popular and it is clear that the cast are not bothered by the negativity - in fact, they thrive on the attention.

During the summer, the eight housemates get to know one another and New Jersey Shore, letting viewers enjoy an insight into their day to day lives and what issues and activities they find important. Appearing to have been chosen for their arrogance and ability to clash with others, the level of in-house competition between both muscle-bound men and 'all natural' women makes for compelling viewing for those who enjoy nothing more than high-volume drama from their reality television. Normal activities include trips to the gym for the men - where you can watch out for Michael Sorrentino, a castmate who has named his own developed abs 'The Situation' - self-tanning and heading out for a night on the town to check out the local talent, as well as plenty of catfights between jealous ladies.

Jersey Shore offers up a serving of strongly stereotypical Italian-American culture, with strong personalities constantly vying for the top spot in the house. Each housemate wants to be the best looking and regarded as the top dog around the house - and will apparently do anything to do so, including backstab fellow housemates and spend far too much time on the sun bed.

Found on the MTV channel, Jersey Shore is an accessible show you'll find that providers like Sky offers - but try not to get too addicted while there's only the one season currently being broadcast!
